E2. Read-A-Thon (PFC)

Read-A-Thon: Dates TBF per PFC
The Read-A-Thon is a school wide event and fundraiser from that fosters reading. Students in all grades will track the number of minutes they read during this two-week period. In addition, students and their parents will seek sponsors for their reading.

Students and classes will be awarded reading prizes as follows:

  • All students who participate will receive a reading ribbon
  • The 3 students with the highest number of minutes read per grade level will receive prizes
  • The student in each classroom with the highest average number of minutes read will receive a trophy
  • The classroom with the highest participation and total number of minutes logged will receive a trophy and class party

Help us go green this year. Encourage your class parents/children to log their reading online at www.CarpenterReads.com. All of the forms found in the Read-a-Thon packet are available for download on www.CarpenterCharter.org. Alternatively, parents can pick up a packet of Read-A-Thon materials in the Main office, which will include a reading log, honor code (both parents and students must sign it), instructions on how the Read-A-Thon will work, rules and sponsor page.

This free event for the community on Friday, September 27th from 5:00-7:00pm will kick-off our Read-a-thon. Students can earn minutes on their reading logs for attendance. Look for a special code on the Welcome Flyer! This event includes:

  • Author readings
  • Workshop activities including illustration, crafts, Books & Bunnies and more
  • Author Meet and Greet area - kids can talk to the authors, ask them to sign books, etc.
  • One-day scholastic Book Fair
  • Food and drinks

To fill your shelves with new books to read during the Read-A-Thon, we will host a one-day Scholastic Book Fair opening September 27th at 5pm in the library. In the past, the book fair has continued the following week. This year it is only a ONE-DAY book fair.

Parents who sign up to volunteer at the Pajama Party or to sell Raffle Tickets will be able to shop the Scholastic Book Fair immediately after school on September 27th from 2:30-3:30pm. Encourage your class parents to volunteer, shop early, and skip the line on Friday night.

There is always confusion between the Scholastic Book Fair flyer and the Scholastic Book Club flyers that are handed out by teachers. Both of these options support our school. The Book Club flyers support your teacher’s classroom and the Book Fair supports PFC and enrichment programs.


  • Encourage your classroom parents to download the Read-A-Thon forms from the school website and log their time using our online option.
  • Forward the RP emails regarding the Read-A-Thon to your classroom in a timely manner.
  • Organize parents in your classroom to volunteer at the Pajama Party.
  • Collect all of the reader logs at the end of the Read-A-Thon period on October 11th; following up with students and parents who have not turned in their logs and sponsor sheets.
