The Carpenter Community Charter Library

Welcome! The Carpenter Community Charter Library contains over 11,000 titles (15,000 copies) including books, videos, DVDs, reference works and professional materials. Located in Room 3, across from the main office, the library can accommodate 75 people. It is equipped with five computers for patron use as well as a computerized circulation system. A projection system and screen are available to display content from videos, DVDs or computers.

Classes visit on a regular or as-needed basis and students visit independently to read, do homework, check out books, or use the computers for research.

At Carpenter, we love to read. We invite you to visit and support the library!

Find a Book / Search the Catalog

Patrons can access the Online Catalog from any internet-connected computer to search for materials in our library. If you need some ideas, book lists are available from your teacher or the Los Angeles Public Library. Another exellent resource is the Digital Library. This subscription database can be accessed through any LAUSD-networked computer or remotely with an Inside LAUSD account.

Accelerated Reader

This reading program encourages students to choose books at their individual reading level, set goals and progress from there. Increased comprehension and motivation to read are some of the benefits. After reading a book, students take a computer quiz to test their vocabulary, understanding and higher literacy skills. Teachers can also monitor student progress. We currently have a desktop version of Accelerated Reader (AR) but are hoping to upgrade to an online program.
To see if a book is included in the AR program - or check its reading level or point value – visit www.ARbookfind.com. You can view some of the available quizzes here.

Support the Carpenter Library

We welcome your donations of books, library supplies or cash gifts. New, hardcover books are most appreciated, but gently-used books of all types will be put to good use. Speak to the librarian for a current library wish list or to discuss volunteer opportunities. Some recurring needs include volunteers to re-shelve books, tape for book repair, paper towels and mild cleanser to clean books, Mylar to cover books and ink for our printer.
You can also support the library by shopping at the PTA-sponsored book fairs or participating in our book exchanges.
